- About the instructor
Sharon Tilotta joined “First Birth Ministries” in 1999. Her gift of teaching has inspired couples to apply a Biblical Approach to their childbirth experience. Giving birth herself seven times, gives her an insight that is communicated as she discusses labor and birth. She has served as a doula by giving labor support to expectant couples in both hospital and home birth settings. Sharon will challenge you to make this a time to grow spiritually as well as help you prepare medically, physically and emotionally for your baby’s birth. Her personalized attention gives each couple the support and direction needed to ensure that their learning goals are met.

Our History
First Birth Ministries was founded in 1991 by Kandis Greco, R.N. For many years, Kandis taught traditional childbirth classes. As a dedicated Christian, she noticed that expectant couples were being prepared physically and medically, but could see that there was a need for spiritual preparation as well. She turned to the Bible for inspiration and found more than 100 passages that had something to say about childbirth. Her love for Christ led her to write a Bible-based curriculum that would guide new parents-to-be in studies that would help them discover God’s plan for their baby’s birth. Now for 32 years hundreds of expectant couples have learned how to be recipients of God’s grace through a time of travail and deliverance.
Our Philosophy
Pregnancy, labor, and birth are normal life events.
“Adam lay with his wife and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain” Gen. 4:1
God made women strong and capable to give birth.
She sets about her work vigorously, her arms are strong for her tasks” Proverbs 31:17
Childbirth is painful and couples can prepare themselves for this hard work.
“To the women He said, ‘I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children.”Gen 3:16
Our bodies are temples of God and the responsibilities of the birth of this child lie with the parents.
Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple, and that God’s spirit lives in you.” I Cor 3:16
Decisions about pregnancy, labor and birth should be made by the couple under the direction of wisdom from God, and input from the health care professional.
“If any of you lack wisdom, he should ask God, Who gives generously to all without fault, and it will be given him.” James 1:5
There is a time for medical procedures and they should be used in births where appropriate.
In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.” Proverbs 16:9
