Philosophy
Our doula services provide personal support during labor and delivery. We are present with the laboring couple in the home or hospital to minister to their physical, emotional and spiritual needs. This service is available only to couples who have completed our seven class series and who have made application for this service.
Our Philosophy is :
- that we are to serve the laboring couple. We believe that it is the responsibility of the expectant couple to prepare and plan for the birth of their baby. As a doula, we believe that as we serve to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the couple, that we are giving the support needed to help accomplish the goals and desires that the couple plans.
- that the expectant couple should discuss and agree on the birth plan with their physician before the labor and birth. We do not feel that it is the doula’s responsibility to question the physician’s decisions during labor and delivery. If needed, we will assist to improve communication between the couple and their healthcare providers.
- that God has given the husband to the wife. It is our desire to provide support to the husband so that he can effectively minister to the needs of his wife. We believe that the doula should in no way interfere with the husband and wife relationship.
- that a doula gives a laboring woman the nurturing support that enables and strengthens her to accomplish giving birth as naturally as possible.
